Gender

Gender matters. We feel strongly that our industry and our organisation should reflect the mix of genders in society. Beyond our values, we know that mixed gender teams collaborate better and make better decisions. Through targeted development programs, training on unconscious bias, we’re working hard to build a mix of genders across Schindler. Our CEO reviews our progress regularly to make sure we stay on track. Also, our global equal pay initiative ensures that everyone receives fair pay for their role, no matter what their gender. 

Diverse abilities

Mobility solutions are our business, and our technicians think inclusively every day when installing elevators, escalators, or moving walks. Abilities come in many different packages so, through initiatives like our Valuable 500 commitment, we are working to improve how we recruit and include people with disabilities. Several local programs have already helped increase the number of people with disabilities in our workforce.

We celebrate that there are up to five generations working together at Schindler, offering fantastic opportunities to learn from each other. We encourage every generation to remain open, curious, and ready to learn from others.

Inclusion and diversity at Schindler Australia

Initiatives and programs

Schindler Lifts Australia supports several programs within our business to help foster an inclusive culture.

  • Inclusive Champions of Change Leadership program, for senior managers to understand the meaning of inclusive leadership, what is needed to create an inclusive culture and how it can help them to achieve their business objectives and educating leaders on their unconscious bias.
  • Partnership with St Yon’s Technical Trade school to encourage school aged students to enter trades, with an emphasis on encouraging girls in trades. This includes work experience placements and sponsorship of “try a trade” days.
  • Women’s mentoring program, linked to the Inclusive Champions of Change Leadership to provide opportunities to women to develop their networks and gain mentoring opportunities from senior managers across the business.
